This month’s round of Alcoholic’s Anonymous and Group Counseling was like two sides of a coin. AA is a very friendly, happy, almost entertaining adventure, while the Monday group session is more of a sharp stick in the eye.

The Monday meetings feel as more of a indoctrination session, as I am constantly being told that I am not unique, I am not special, and I am not anything more than a cog in a machine. Given this attitude towards me, why should I feel nothing but hopelessness? Being the extortionist nature of this punishment, I will continue to go, listen, and occasionally, speak and give my thoughts. I’ve got a lot of reading to do.

AA however, is a wonderful experience. I have not given myself to the program, as I see no reason to. The god stuff is just such a turn off, but I have learned a few good tips on how to deal with all the junk life throws at me without drinking. AA if a very friendly escape, where I can go to meet people, and find out what other people have done besides drink, do drugs, and just basically try not to be self destructive. Am I an alcoholic? Do I have a problem? I don’t think so, and as they tell me, just stick around, it’s not contagious. A very nice group of people that are not overly judgmental, although, I do understand what people there say when they say it, as they have been there, and have put their lives back together, and I have never been as bad off as some.
So I am grateful for at least half of what I have to do, but, as always, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
